Insurance cover is something that we all have to deal with at some point in
time. Whether it be car insurance, life insurance, travel, pet, or countless
other types, it is a bane that we must all bear in modern society to protect
ourselves from life's little mishaps.
Some insurance, for example car insurance, is mandatory in certain
countries. Most countries require you to have a certain level of cover before
you are allowed out on the road. If you are caught driving without insurance
you can expect to receive some heavy fines, and in some cases a prison
sentence. Other types of cover are advisable to have, to protect you, your
family, and your belongings, in case of damage, illness, death, loss, theft,
unemployment etc... And are therefore good ideas for your peace of mind. Many
of these types of cover though are not required by law.
There are several problems though regarding insurance.
The first is the rising costs of all sorts of insurance. Insurance can be
expensive, depending on what it is that you need covered, and the industry is
showing no signs of reducing their premiums in the future. As is with
everything these days, the costs are always rising, usually faster than your
pay packet. My advice would be to get yourself insurance for what you
definitely need to be covered for, and only if you can afford it, star.
Insuring things that are not mandatory, but offer peace of mind.
The other thing that can be an issue is the extra cover that companies
offer you to try and get your custom. You can sometimes find yourself bombarded
with one offer after another. Some will be at reduced rates when you buy
certain insurance, where others will offer it freely as a way to get you on
board. It is important to remember when you are comparing premiums and their
bonuses what it is that you actually need, and not get pulled into something at
a higher premium because it has an attractive bonus. Sometimes the bonus can
just be something very minor and of little value to you in your situation. I
would advise you to just look for the most affordable premium that you can find
with adequate coverage from a reputable company, and go with that. If you
happen to get any extras with it then that is fine, just do not compromise your
cover or your wallet for that matter by being attracted to offers that are not
necessary.
Another issue is the variety of not only insurance providers, but the
different levels of cover that they provide for each type. To use cars as the
example again, there is comprehensive, third party fire and theft, and third
party, along with various extra bonus levels of cover that can be included. It
is important that when you are choosing your level of cover that you fully understand
what that actually covers you for. Paying a little more for your insurance and
being adequately covered is a far better scenario than paying less and then
finding out that you are not covered properly when something goes wrong. This
can often lead to you spending much more money in the long run.
